Gordon & Byron

In the, uh, "great" tradition (says me) of Mike Holmgren, Mangrimace and Rob Ryan, may I present Gordon from Sesame Street and former NBA player, coach and current TV analyst Byron Scott.

Okay, this is as far off the Orange & Brown topic as I will ever get. I promise. (Until next time.)

It *IS* local and topical though - ok, sorta.

The Cavaliers recently spoke with Byron Scott about the vacant head coaching position. We've heard that Michigan State's Tom Izzo is taking the post. We're just awaiting confirmation.

Personally, I would rather see Byron Scott as the Cavs coach. Because, well, I like Sesame Street.

Oh, and because he has played on championship teams and coached in the NBA as well. Guess that should count for something.

The Great "What If?"

I believe that Bitter Orange & Brown is a valid blog title for the decades we have suffered at the hands of our beloved football team.

But I was asked a question a few months ago that really made me think:

"What if the Browns become a winning team? Will you still be 'Bitter'?"

Hmmm....great question. Will we still be Bitter if Browns president (and my "grandpa crush" - despite being younger than both of my parents) Mike Holmgren leads us to the Lombardi Trophy in a few years? I'm not delusional - I know it will be an extensive process to even make the playoffs.

I didn't have a good answer for the Bitter question besides being lazy and not wanting to change the art on the blog. Or the Twitter handle. Or the Facebook page. So I deferred to my friend Pete (aka "Frowns"), whose blog title is the similarly negative clevelandfrowns.com. Would his blog title change if we were suddenly a winner?

He then referred the question to the guys from Waiting for Next Year, who could end their perennial Waiting period if we had a major sports title here in Cleveland.

Unfortunately, no consensus was reached. Perhaps our imaginations could not stretch that far?

It made me think about the other blogs that would have consider renaming themselves if we suddenly found ourselves in the predicament of having a winning team in a city that is used to losers: SuperbowlSomeday, 64 and Counting, CursedCleveland, Cry Me A Cuyahoga River, etc.

How much have we been hurt collectively by our pro sports teams that we have so many cleverly negatively named and extremely frustrated blogs out there?

I guess that even with my blind optimism in Mr. Holmgren, there will always be something to gripe about with the Browns....

And perhaps that's why we love them.

Although winning wouldn't suck either.
