Of Course Not! It's the Browns!

After the Browns once again snatched defeat from the clutches of victory, my husband and I went to the Home Depot. As I stood by while my husband pondered over the intricacies of male plug power cord heads (whatever those are), I overheard the following conversation between two female Home Depot employees as they walked away from the break room:

Home Depot Employee #1: "Baltimore won."

Home Depot Employee #2: "So the Browns didn't win."

Home Depot Employee #1: "The old Browns won."

Home Depot Employee #2: "But not the Browns."

Home Depot Employee #1: "Of course not! It's the Browns!"

As the Browns fall to 0-3, I wonder when I'll reach that point in the season when I decide it's a waste of time for me to watch. It might be earlier than usual.

It's really, really hard to root for the Browns. Every. Single. Year.

I'm grateful to have the opportunity to sound off on this blog. I just wish I had something positive to say. We did look ok, like an actual football team, at some points during the game. I am impressed with Scott Fujita (which I may address in another post). We did drive down the field more than once. We scored the first touchdown the Pigeons (oops did I say that out loud I meant Ravens) have allowed all season and Peyton Hillis got 140 yards, more than the Ravens usually allow in one game (they only have the 2nd best defense in the NFL right now). In the end, though, it wasn't enough, and the numbers are all going in the wrong column, for the third week in a row. And I really can't stand to hear this is a rebuilding year; I feel like I hear that every year and every year instead of building we get torn down.

So, Browns fans, what do you think? Please sound off in the comments; lemme hear it. What needs to be done so we can win? Do you think we will win at all this year?

But does he collect paper clips?

Fact #1 Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco has a unibrow.

Fact #2 I love Sesame Street. Obviously.

Fact #3 The following was inevitable:

Thanks, @MikeAmmo for not letting me forget about that silly unibrow.
I feel like grabbing some tweezers. It would surely take a good two days to pluck through that mess.

P.S. Suck it, Modell & son!!!!! You too, Ozzie.

Learning to Love ... Football

I remember being in high school and going to football games. I went to watch my sister and friends play in the band. I would leave after halftime. I never watched the game. I’d socialize with my friends, but never watched the game.

In college, I’d go because my sorority was all going together or, more often, I was helping to film the game for our college. The first time I remember enjoying the game from the TV truck when I was directing it. I didn’t know what was happening, but it was neat to watch.

After I graduated, I would go to games with my ex and our friends. I still didn’t know what was happening, but there were friends, socializing and food. That’s how I started to love football. It is a social event.

I treat football like any other social event. That means even if I’m going to sit in the stadium (not something I get do often), watching at a bar or at a friend’s house, it’s a production. There’s picking the perfect outfit (don’t hate me cause I like pink) and hair and make-up. But that makes it fun. It always surprises people when the girl in pink can explain a touchback.

I’ve come a long way since I called the end-zone the painted area!

The Thrill of Victory...What's That???

At this point in time, you'd think we would be used to The Agony of Defeat...but it's just as painful as ever. Lately when I watch the Browns, I really do feel like that ski jumper from Wide World of Sports who hurled himself off the ramp the wrong way. making him famous for all the wrong reasons. I'm sure the day that happened, he thought he was going to have an awesome day on the mountain.
It's just like the Browns. They give us hope...we think that everything is going well, but at the end it all goes downhill. It's been difficult to watch the final outcomes so far this season, and being 0-2 gives all of the comedians out there plenty more fodder against our team. I hate that Delhomme is hurt and can't show us what he's capable of. I completely abhor starting the new season this way, with the Browns having to dig themselves out of a hole AGAIN. This is getting really old, really fast.
This does not mean I've given up on our Brownies. Far from it...there is still a lot of season to go. Maybe the lousy start will give them the kick in the butt that they really need, or else we could all go down there as a group and take turns actually kicking them each squarely in the behind. I'm hoping and praying that they can turn things around much earlier this time...or else I may have to resort to desperate measures to entertain myself this winter...it might be time for me to take up ski jumping. Would anyone care to join me?

Ouch

The Browns managed to snatch defeat from the clutches of victory once again last Sunday against the Buccaneers.

As a result, the Browns received the esteemed honor of being selected for one of the five teams for which it's not too early to push the panic button. Awesome.

This past Father's Day, we attended the car show at Stan Hywet, where I met Paul, who was kind enough to allow me to take a picture of his jersey.

He told me it's not original, and I know it's not, but I was struck by how it epitomizes Cleveland sports. There is all that came before the departure of LeBron James, then The Decision, the Indians suck as usual, and the Browns lost their season opener and should be pushing some proverbial panic button.

Paul is a former member of the Browns Backers Club, and had two select quotes for me (in June, and I'm disappointed to report they still apply in September).

Quote #1: "The Browns are so bad their tour bus should be a hearse."

Quote #2: "The Player of the Game should be sponsored by Plant, Digg, & Bury Funeral Home."

Don't get the wrong idea, though, he is still a loyal long suffering fan, just as many of us are here in Cleveland. He had fond memories of the Browns Backers Club and still keeps in touch with many of his former club mates.

On a brighter personal note, every time I watch the Browns and see defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, I think of this, and it makes me smile.

And who knows, right? Today's game could be better. Go Browns!
